This past fiscal year, the Philadelphia Furniture Bank collaborated with over 70 member agencies across Philadelphia to provide home furnishings to individuals and families who need it most. We’re proud to have furnished over 8,000 homes since our founding in 2014. Since 2017, we’ve partnered with UESF to provide furniture to their clients. Last year, we served over 60 clients from UESF, supplying full sets of home furniture, including living and dining room furnishings, brand-new bedding, and more! Let’s learn more about UESF and how they serve the city of Philadelphia.
UESF was established in 1983 and focuses on providing emergency utility assistance and other services as a part of a larger goal of housing stabilization. UESF stands for Utility Emergency Services Fund.
UESF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit committed to a holistic, preventive, and cost-efficient approach to assisting vulnerable families impacted by housing crises.
UESF assists households across the city with housing stabilization through various programs like their longstanding Utility Grant program, a Veterans program, a Family Empowerment program, the BenePhilly Center, an assistance program for water, and more.
The Utility Grant program provides financial assistance to households who are facing utility terminations, have already had them shut off, and those who owe back utilities. Since there are various eligibility requirements and different assistance programs to apply for, UESF is committed to helping individuals and families every step of the way with various intake centers across the city.
In addition to utility assistance, UESF helps folks apply for other benefits like SNAP or Medicaid and secure rental or mortgage assistance. UESF also holds virtual workshops and in-person events. Examples of UESF workshops include Basic Budgeting, How to Save Money on Your Utility Bills, Tenant/Homeowner Rights, Career Goal Planning, and More. Check out their workshop schedule for August 2024 and beyond here.
UESF and the Philadelphia Furniture Bank share the mission of creating housing stability for Philadelphians and their families. UESF helps folks get into and secure their housing "by addressing immediate needs and removing barriers to long-term stability". PFB supports this by providing free furniture to help clients feel more at home in their new house or apartment. The ultimate goal is a world where everyone has a place to call home.
We’re grateful to UESF for their work in supporting low-income individuals and families, and we are proud to collaborate with UESF to provide home furnishings for their clients.
