Make a Difference in Your Community

Advocacy is about making your voice heard and influencing change. Here are some ways you can get involved and advocate effectively: 

Steps to Effective Advocacy

1. Stay Informed

  • Newsletter Sign-Up: Subscribe to any of our newsletters to stay up-to-date on all things Pathways to Housing PA, Philadelphia Furniture Bank, or Good Haul. 
  • Research & Publications: Check out our list of research and publications to understand the issues and solutions we advocate for

2. Take Action

  • Contact Your Representatives: Reach out to local, state, and federal representatives to express support for policies that address homelessness, harm reduction, or affordable housing. Use this tool to figure out who your representatives are. 
  • Participate in Campaigns: Join your community's advocacy campaigns, rallies, and public meetings like council meetings or town halls to raise awareness and drive change.
  • Volunteer: Offer your time and skills in our Emerging Leaders Group and help amplify our message.

3. Support Financially

  • Donate: If able, contribute financially to organizations that are contributing to positive change in the world or who align with your values/advocacy goals. You can support Pathways to Housing PA here
  • Fundraise: Organize fundraising events or campaigns to support your chosen organization. Using online fundraising platforms can be an easy way to raise money, while spreading the word for your cause. Learn more about fundraising for Pathways to Housing PA here.

4. Engage With Your Community

  • Social Media: Use your social media platforms to spread awareness about homelessness or other causes. Share Pathways' and similar accounts' posts to help them reach a wider audience. You can also utilize social media to find organizing groups and local campaigns to get involved in.
  • Personal Testimony: If you have specialized knowledge, or personal lived experience, share your story and knowledge with your networks. Personal stories can be powerful in creating connection, awareness, and understanding around an issue.
