Mental Health America partners with HFU

Khalil speaking at the event

May is Mental Health Month, and this year Mental Health America is spreading education and awareness through their “Look Around, Look Within” campaign to amplify how our environment impacts mental health. On Monday, May 1st, Mental Health America kicked off the month of advocacy and awareness by hosting an hour-long webinar, titled, “I’m facing housing insecurity, now what?”

HFU Training Specialist, Khalil Martin, LSW, participated in the panel discussion addressing the support and resources available for those experiencing housing insecurity and homelessness, and how common misconceptions associated with housing insecurity and homelessness can be harmful to mental health.

Alongside current social work student, Rei Scott, and Mental Health Association of South Central Kansas president/CEO, Mary C. Jones, LCMFT, LCAC, Khalil discussed how a safe and stable home is vital to one’s health and well-being.
