Workshop: Equity in Action Panel
Date/Time: Monday, September 19th, 2:30-4:00 PM
Presenter: Andrew Spiers, LSW – Director of Training & Technical Assistance
Join us for a dynamic discussion on the critical issue of equity in homelessness services. This panel will delve into the multifaceted challenges faced by marginalized communities, including people of color, LGBTQ+ community, and individuals with disabilities. Our expert panelists will explore the unique concerns and barriers these groups encounter in accessing homelessness services, prevention services, and long-term economic stabilization, shedding light on the intersections of identity and vulnerability.

Workshop: Before Housing First: Centering Client Needs
Date/Time: Tuesday, September 19th, 9-10:00 AM
Presenters: Andrew Spiers, LSW – Director of Training & Technical Assistance
Over the last several years, supportive housing agencies have seen exponential increases in the amount of time it takes to connect a client with an apartment from the point of initial engagement. While this can be frustrating for both clients and staff, there is still a lot that can be accomplished while we wait for housing options to become available. This session will discuss strategies for effectively engaging clients awaiting supportive housing units by centering client needs in the goal-setting process.

Workshop: Assertive Engagement & the Therapeutic Alliance
Date/Time: Wed September 20th      1-2:30 PM
Presenters: Andrew Spiers, LSW – Director of Training & Technical Assistance
The bond between provider and participant can be one of the primary vehicles for positive change. Centering our approach in authenticity, collaboration, and compassion, this session will allow attendees to explore strategies for building and maintaining a therapeutic alliance with individuals experiencing homelessness. We will discuss common barriers to care and creative strategies for overcoming these barriers to effectively engage clients in services.
