How Does Good Haul Work? What to Expect

Decluttering your space doesn’t have to be stressful, and it can do a lot of good along the way. Good Haul is a mission-driven junk hauling service based in Philadelphia that makes it easy to get rid of unwanted stuff while minimizing waste and supporting our community. Here’s how it works, from your first quote to the final destination of your items.
1. Reach Out for a Free Quote
Getting started is simple. You can call us, fill out the form on our website, or email us directly to request a quote. Just tell us a little about the job — what you need removed, where it’s located, and when you’d like it gone. We’ll get back to you with a clear, upfront quote so you know exactly what to expect. We serve the city of Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs including New Jersey.
2. We Schedule a Pickup That Works for You
Once you’re ready to move forward, we’ll schedule your pickup at a time that works for you. We provide a 3-hour arrival window and can work with you to meet more specific needs if necessary. Whether you’re coordinating access to an apartment building or need a tighter timeframe, we’ve got you covered.
3. Our Team Handles the Heavy Lifting
On pickup day, our trained team shows up ready to work. We handle all the hauling, including packing loose items and disassembling furniture if needed. No need to drag anything to the curb as we’ll haul from anywhere, including attics, basements, tight stairwells, and more.
Your price is based on how much space your items take up in our truck. If you end up having more or less than you thought, we can adjust the quote on the spot. And just a heads up — our crew doesn’t do haggling. They’re strong, not salespeople.

4. You Pay Upon Completion
Once we’ve finished the job, you pay — simple as that. No deposits, no pressure. With your items gone, you’re left with a cleaner space and peace of mind. Bonus: Your items and haul directly benefit folks exiting homelessness in Philadelphia.
So, What Happens to Your Stuff After Pickup?
This is where Good Haul is different.
5. We Sort Everything at Our Warehouse
Back at our warehouse, we sort through everything we’ve hauled. Items are separated into three general categories: donations, recyclables, and trash. Our priority is always to reduce what ends up in the landfill.
6. We Recycle Responsibly
Recyclables are sent to the proper places based on type — metals, electronics, plastics, and cardboard all go to appropriate recycling centers so they can be repurposed.
7. We Donate What Can Be Reused
Usable items are passed along to local organizations that help others, and these are just a few:
- Furniture and housewares go to the Philadelphia Furniture Bank or Habitat for Humanity ReStore
- Clothing is donated to Circle Thrift
- Books are shared with Project HOME’s book program
- Other reusable goods are matched with community partners whenever possible
8. Minimal Waste, Maximum Impact
Only what truly can’t be reused or recycled ends up in the trash. Our goal is to keep as much as possible out of the landfill so your stuff gets a chance at a second life.
9. Every Job Supports a Bigger Mission
Best of all, every dollar you spend with Good Haul supports our mission at Pathways to Housing PA. They’re a nonprofit organization working to end homelessness in Philadelphia by providing housing and support services to people with disabilities.
There are no corporate owners — your money goes directly into helping others find stability, health, and home.
