The quick litmus test on donations to PFB is this:

If you wouldn't offer it to a friend or family member, we wouldn't offer it to a client at PFB.

Power of Choice

We pride ourselves on offering high-quality items that allow our clients to choose when furnishing their new homes. For those experiencing homelessness, choice is extremely hard to come by. For the most part, they are forced to accept what is available to them for every aspect of their lives while they are living unsheltered, and that continues when they begin to get back on their feet by being limited to what their housing program offers.

When clients visit the Philadelphia Furniture Bank (PFB), they are guided through our showroom by a staff member or volunteer and invited to choose items that fit their style and family needs. Of course, we also provide guidance on what will fit their space as Philadelphia apartments are notoriously small and oddly shaped. Being able to make their own decisions and show their personality through their furnishings is key for us, and we can do that because of our generous donors who provide a wide array of furniture items for them to choose from.

Furniture Donation Criteria

Furniture donations must be in good condition, meaning not broken, stained, chipped, discolored, or missing parts. All furniture items should be clean and pest-free, although we fully treat all upholstered items just in case.

We especially appreciate donations of smaller furniture items, like small dining sets, loveseats, and soft chairs. With home sizes trending smaller, these items are in higher demand and tend to go faster than larger pieces. Don't forget about donations of occasional tables like side tables, TV stands, or nightstands. These are all great examples of items to donate!

As a reminder, we do not accept bedframes or mattresses. We provide those brand-new for all PFB clients. We also ONLY accept furniture. Household items, baby equipment, office or outdoor furniture, pianos, exercise equipment, electronics, air conditioners, and TVs are NOT accepted. For a full list of items we do/do not accept, please visit this page.
