The Philadelphia Furniture Bank (PFB) is proud to partner with more than 50 member agencies to provide furniture to those who need it most. Since our founding in 2014, we’ve furnished over 8,000 homes. Asociación Puertorriqueños en Marcha, Inc. (APM), one of our valued member agencies, has been partnering with us since 2018. In the last two years, we’ve served almost 100 households for APM and have helped furnish more than 200 homes throughout our partnership. PFB provides complete sets of home furniture, including living and dining room furnishings, brand-new bedding, and more. Let’s take a closer look at Asociación Puertorriqueños en Marcha and how they serve the Philadelphia region.
Founded in 1970, APM is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for residents of North Philadelphia and beyond. Originally established to serve the Puerto Rican community, APM has since expanded to support individuals and families of all backgrounds. They offer a wide range of services in housing, early childhood education, behavioral health, and community and economic development. Through their programs, APM addresses immediate needs while also building pathways toward long-term stability and success.
“Our mission is to help families achieve their greatest potential. APM envisions a community where every resident is engaged, encouraged to lead, and given opportunities to become self-reliant. Only then can everyone truly thrive. We recognize our responsibility to build that foundation.”
From developing affordable housing to running early education programs, APM is deeply rooted in the community and focused on empowering residents. They provide supportive housing services, behavioral health programs for children and adults, and economic development initiatives to Philadelphia neighborhoods. Their community engagement efforts include year-round events, with their annual Sugar Cane Festival standing out as one of their most anticipated celebrations.
Each summer, the Sugar Cane Festival fills the streets of North Philadelphia with music, food, and celebration. Neighbors and visitors come together for live performances, a domino tournament, kids’ activities, raffles, and giveaways. Guests can enjoy fresh sugar cane, connect with community resources, and explore local history at the Old Teatro Puerto Rico. It’s an annual tradition that reflects APM’s commitment to culture, connection, and community pride.
We’re incredibly proud to support Asociación Puertorriqueños en Marcha in their mission to strengthen communities and help families thrive. At PFB, we believe that providing a stable and comfortable home environment is a crucial step toward fostering independence and well-being. APM is doing vital work in our community, and we’re honored to contribute by providing home furnishings for the individuals and families they serve.
