Meet James
James Whitaker was born and raised in Philadelphia, and he continues to give back to the local community despite no longer living locally. The topic of homelessness is close to his heart because he faced homelessness when he was younger. James and his family lost everything when his family’s house burned down and they lived at Salvation Army for almost a year. Because of this, he has been motivated to help others to ensure no one has to go through what he and his family did.
James is a Housing First Hero, a group of Pathways’ monthly recurring donors. Monthly giving makes donating easy for James, since he spends much of his time managing his businesses, and being a father, and husband. James is especially excited that monthly donations as a Housing First Hero will add up to the amount needed to house a participant for a full year in 2021.
James believes it’s important to give to organizations like Pathways who are frontline workers. Our Housing First model resonates with James because it provides supportive treatment services in the areas of mental and physical health and substance use. James says “Don’t look at it like you’re giving away money; you’re investing in somebody else getting better and reclaiming their lives.”
We hope you will consider joining Housing First Heroes.
