The Philadelphia Furniture Bank (PFB) is proud to partner with more than 60 member agencies to provide furniture to those who need it most. Since our founding in 2014, we’ve furnished over 8,000 homes. Women Against Abuse, Inc., a valued member agency, has partnered with us since 2016.

In the last two years, we’ve served over 100 households from Women Against Abuse and have helped furnish more than 450 homes throughout our partnership. PFB provides complete sets of home furniture, including living and dining room furnishings, brand-new bedding, and more. Let’s take a closer look at Women Against Abuse and how they serve Philadelphia.

Women Against Abuse, Inc. began as a part-time domestic violence hotline in 1976. Five years later, they opened an emergency shelter, a legal center, and a counseling program while building community support and creating programs to better assist those in need of shelter. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Women Against Abuse continued to expand and refine their programs and services to meet the evolving needs of the community.

The mission of Women Against Abuse is to provide quality, compassionate, and nonjudgmental services in a manner that fosters self-respect and independence in persons experiencing intimate partner violence and to lead the struggle to end domestic violence through advocacy and community education.

In 2005, in partnership with the City of Philadelphia, Women Against Abuse launched the Philadelphia Domestic Violence Hotline, a city-wide 24-hour, free point of access for crisis intervention, resources, and shelter intake. Over the next decade, the organization introduced school education programs, training for first responders, and new partnerships with community organizations to reach vulnerable populations. They also expanded their shelters, opening new locations to serve more individuals.

More recently, Women Against Abuse completed a $3.6 million renovation of one of their safe havens, Ameya’s Place. These much-needed upgrades improved the space, added private bathrooms, and increased capacity to serve more people each year.

We’re incredibly proud to support Women Against Abuse. Their mission to provide quality, compassionate, and nonjudgmental services that foster self-respect and independence resonates deeply with us. At PFB, we strive to promote the same sense of respect, compassion, and dignity for our clients in the warehouse. Women Against Abuse is doing crucial work in our community, and we’re honored to play a small part in their mission by providing home furnishings for individuals leaving domestic violence situations.
