Keys for Homes Society

Join the Keys for Homes Society and leave a legacy that will last for generations by designating Pathways to Housing PA in your will or by making a planned gift with multiple benefits. Planned gifts help further our mission and can provide you with a charitable income tax deduction, minimize capital gains taxes, reduce estate taxes, or provide you or others with an annual income for life.

How you can benefit

  • You decide how much to give—and no gift is too small.
  • Your gift costs you nothing now.
  • You retain control of your assets during your lifetime and, if your circumstances change, you can modify the gift.
  • You may choose to keep your gift anonymous.
  • You can leave a gift in honor or memory of someone who inspired your commitment to ending homelessness.
  • You will be remembered as someone who made our community better today and for future generations.

Gifts by beneficiary designation

Make a difference simply by signing your name and appointing Pathways as a beneficiary of any of these types of accounts:

  • Retirement Accounts
  • Life Insurance Policies
  • Bank or Brokerage Accounts
  • Certificates of Deposit
  • Donor Advised Funds

Gifts through an Individual Retirement Account (IRA)

If you are over age 70 ½, you can save on income tax when making donations to qualified charities, such as Pathways to Housing PA, directly from your Individual Retirement Account.

Gifts in a Last Testament or Will

You can take care of family first, and include Pathways to Housing PA to receive a specific amount or percentage of your estate. Or, name us a contingent beneficiary, so ending homelessness is next in line after your loved ones.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What if I already have a will? Whether you are having your first will drafted or are revising your current will, including a bequest to Pathways to Housing PA is easier than you may think. If you already have a will, there’s no need to re-write it in order to include your gift. Instead, you can use a special legal clause called a codicil to amend your will after the fact, and it gives you the flexibility of choosing how to make that gift. Some choose to make a residual gift, and others choose to gift a percentage of their estate. As always, we strongly encourage you to speak with your financial planner or lawyer when making a charitable bequest.
  • What if I want to help more than one charity? You can remember all of your favorite charities through a gift in your will. There’s no limit to the number. Think of your estate as a pie. You can cut it into as many different sized slices as you like.
  • Wouldn’t it be better to help now rather than later? Fortunately, you don’t need to make a choice between making a gift now and making a gift later. Many donors choose to continue making annual gifts in addition to their intention to leave a gift in their will. Both present and future gifts are very much needed and appreciated.
  • How can I leave a charitable bequest and still provide for my family? We understand that family comes first. Fortunately, there are many ways to support ending homelessness in our community through a gift in your will while also providing for your family. Some choose to do this by making a residual gift, which ensures that all of your other priorities are met before the charitable gift is made. Others choose to divide their estate into portions and allocate those portions according to their wishes.

Leaving a gift is easy and rewarding. Many people are surprised to learn how easy it is to make a lasting difference for the charities they love by leaving a gift in their will or by naming them as beneficiaries of a retirement plan or and other financial account.

Making a planned gift to Pathways to Housing PA in your will or by beneficiary designation is a great way to invest in ending homelessness in our community and make a lasting difference for people with disabilities who have experienced chronic homelessness.
