Earlier this month, we shared James’ experiences with his first night in his apartment and with Sublocade, a long-acting, once-monthly injectable medication for opioid use disorder. Most participants who graciously share their stories with us vividly recall their first night in their apartment. It’s a moment that signifies stability for many—a locked door and a safe space can make all the difference. By providing housing first, we aim to create a stable foundation for healing.

Our services are never forced upon participants; instead, we’re here to help them find the care they need when they’re ready. This may include care for mental or physical health concerns, engaging with their community, assistance with grocery shopping or other tasks, and treatment for substance use.

Our Center of Excellence for Opioid Use Disorder (COE-OUD), highlighted in an earlier blog this month, provides substance-use-related care for over 200 individuals in Philadelphia. The COE helps participants connect to the programs they seek, whether that’s entering a residential treatment center, speaking regularly with our psychiatrist, or receiving medication for opioid use disorder. The Center of Excellence meets individuals where they are in their recovery journey, educating them about available options and supporting them through whatever decisions they make.

Community support through donations and grants makes our work at the Center for Excellence for Opioid Use Disorder possible. Last year, we implemented a grant-funded incentive program that provided gift cards to participants who received their monthly Sublocade injection. The program proved successful, with many participants continuing their monthly treatments even after the incentive period ended. Participants have also shared positive feedback about Sublocade's once-monthly administration and its effectiveness in managing withdrawal symptoms. As James noted, the medication provided a stability he didn't fully appreciate until after he stopped treatment.

Sublocade has proven to be an effective treatment option for many; however, it carries a monthly cost of $2,016. Your support is essential in continuing to provide the best treatment options and care for our participants. Here’s how your donation makes a difference:

  • $100 covers basic household supplies for someone moving into their new apartment, including bedding, kitchen essentials, and cleaning supplies
  • $250 provides one session with our psychiatrist, who specializes in working with individuals with substance use disorder
  • $500 helps cover one week of intensive support services, including healthcare coordination and transportation to medical appointments
  • $1,000 contributes to medication support programs, helping bridge gaps in coverage for life-saving treatments like Sublocade
  • $2,016 covers the monthly cost of Sublocade treatment for one person

We’ve already raised 79% of our year-end goal thanks to generous supporters like you. Help us close the gap and reach 100% before the new year! Your gift today strengthens our ability to provide housing, treatment, and wraparound care for our participants, ensuring they have the support they need at every step of their journey.

Please consider donating today to make a lasting impact!
