Organization Summary

Pathways to Housing PA operates three programs at our I Street warehouse. The Philadelphia Furniture Bank (PFB) is a centralized resource for furniture for human service organizations from across Philadelphia. Member agencies schedule appointments for their clients who then visit our showroom floor to choose their furniture to start fresh as they move out of homelessness. Each individual or family receives a full home’s worth of furniture, including brand new bedding. Good Haul is a social enterprise junk hauling business serving clients in Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs. We offer affordable and eco-friendly junk removal services for residential and commercial clients. All revenue from Good Haul directly supports efforts PFB. Work First is a transitional employment program that increases low barrier job placement, both short and long term, while helping participants develop skills and increasing income. Work First was developed specifically to support those exiting homelessness who have struggled to find employment and Work First staff support all operations at the I Street warehouse.

Position Summary

The Mover is responsible for supporting Drivers when loading/unloading trucks, making deliveries, and picking up donations. They move a variety of items large and small including but not limited to furniture, appliances, boxes, artwork, and household items. Movers are essential to operations and completing customer projects, navigating hallways, stairs, elevators, and various layouts while ensuring that all items being moved are undamaged and well cared for during and after transport. 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Conduct Good Haul customer projects, pick up donations, and deliver furniture to PFB clients in the Greater Philadelphia area.
  • Load deliveries and unload items from the truck when it returns to the warehouse.
  • Disassemble and deconstruct large items as necessary.
  • Properly pack items into the truck so they are safe and undamaged for transport using cling wrap, blankets, and other tools.
  • Collect trash and provide clean-up services for customer projects.
  • Pack items into boxes or storage containers with the appropriate tool so they are not damaged during a move.
  • Assist with moving and staging inventory, support warehouse cleaning, and repair furniture as needed. 

Essential Education, Experience, and Skills

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Available to work nights and weekends as needed

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  

  • Ability to speak, hear, and communicate effectively over the phone and in person with customers and internal staff
  • Operate all equipment, computers, keyboards, and phone necessary to perform the job.
  • Clean driving record, with ability and comfort in driving a 16’ box truck.
  • Ability to push and pull 41-100 pounds multiple times per day while handling furniture
  • Ability to be both indoor and outdoor while transporting furniture
  • Ability to constantly reach outward while handling furniture and occasionally reach above shoulder
  • Ability to spend the majority of the day standing, traveling and walking while handling furniture and occasionally sitting, climbing, squatting kneeling, and bending
  • The employee is expected to adhere to all agency policies and to act as a role model in the adherence to policies

Pay Rate: $19.14/hour
