Announcing the First-Ever Philadelphia Furniture Bank Chair Affair
What do a child with a bed made of couch cushions, a second-hand chair in a warehouse on Jasper street, and the head furniture designer at Anthropology have in common? This June, they will all meet to form one beautiful solution to an aggravating problem. The Philadelphia Furniture Bank’s first annual Chair Affair (purchase tickets here!) will bring together high-end designers, art enthusiasts, and part-time philanthropists for an evening of fun to help ensure that struggling Philadelphians and their children don’t have to sleep on the floor.
The Chair Affair journey begins at our warehouse on Jasper street, where artists from the Tri-State area each selected a chair that inspired them. Using their varied mediums of paint, woodworking, textiles, sewing, stamping and embellishments, they are now busy at work transforming these chairs into one-of-a-kind masterpieces. On June 1st at the Moore College of Art these pieces will be up for auction. Chair Affair attendees will enjoy cocktails, delicacies by John Serock Catering, networking, a raffle and a chance to meet the incredible artists who created the collection. The auction itself will feature 20+ unique chairs, including one piece designed by a Pathways to Housing PA participant.
While all that sounds fun, it’s not even the best part. The real party begins once the Chair Affair ends. That’s when the contributions raised from Philadelphian’s across the city begin to make an impact. Children who’ve journeyed from homelessness to apartments will slumber in beds at last. Mothers whose homes were lost in fires will create new memories with a couch and a lamp in their living rooms. Families fleeing abusive homes will gather around a table in safety for the first time in months. The Chair Affair begins this June with beautifully crafted design furniture. It ends when no child in our city is left sleeping on the floor.
