#ItsThatSimple: an art installation to raise awareness
Housing as a basic human right: it's that simple.
On any given night, more than 6,200 people are experiencing homelessness in Philadelphia.
Of those, more than 1,100 are sleeping unsheltered.
Pathways to Housing PA’s Housing First model has an unprecedented success rate of 85% of participants retaining their housing, but the 450 people housed through our organization barely puts a dent in the overall issue of homelessness in our community.
From June 15th to July 1, visit East Market (1118 Market Street) to view our art installation to raise awareness for the thousands of people in Philadelphia who are experiencing homelessness, either living in temporary shelter or living unsheltered on the streets. When you arrive, look up! The installation will be hanging from the lights in the courtyard between the buildings, and are best viewed during the daytime.
Members of our staff will be onsite to answer questions and provide extra information on June 18, 19, and 20 from 12pm-1pm.
The installation consists of 133 homes:
- Each of the 124 charcoal grey homes represent 50 of the people experiencing homelessness, right now, in Philadelphia
- Each of the 9 green homes represent 50 people whose homelessness was ended when they joined Pathways to Housing PA
After you've seen the need, read our participant's stories in their own words:
You can also help by sharing photos of the installation to social media along with this message: Everyone deserves a place to call home #ItsThatSimple.
